MEET THE WESTERN STATES CLINICAL RESEARCH, INC. DOCTORS

The physicians who are Principal Investigators for research studies at Western States Clinical Research, Inc. are are all board certified in their field and in their experience as Principal Investigators, have contributed to launching many new medications that are now available in the United States.

  Dr. Rumbyrt is an allergy and asthma specialist with Denver Allergy and Asthma Associates, P.C.  He has been a principal investigator on 40 studies with WSCR, Inc. since 1995.  Dr. Rumbyrt attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he received a degree in biology, and then attended Loyola University of Chicago for his medical degree. He did his residency in internal medicine at the Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, California, and completed his fellowship in allergy and immunology at the National Jewish Center in Denver, Colorado.

Dr. Elzi is an internal medicine practitioner based in Wheat Ridge, CO.  Since 2006, Dr. Elzi has been PI on 20 studies with WSCR, Inc.  Dr. Elzi received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado and his medical degree from the University of Colorado in Denver, Colorado. Both his internship and residency in internal medicine took place at the University of Texas, Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. He has been board certified in internal medicine since 1995.

 

Dr. Goff  is a board certified doctor in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.  Dr. Goff’s primary clinic is Rocky Mountain Gastroenterology Associates (RMGA).  He has been Principal Investigator on over 50 clinical trials and has worked with Western States Clinical Research, Inc. since 1993. Dr. Goff earned earned his doctor of medicine degree and his B.S. in biology at the University of California Irvine.  He completed his medical internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Oregon Health Science Center in Portland, OR.  Dr. Goff’s fellowship in Gastroenterology was earned from the University of Colorado Health Science Center in Denver, CO. Dr. Goff is currently a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and is one of only 300 physicians in the nation to have his Research Certification from the Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Investigators (AAPI).  Dr. Goff is the current Governor of the State of Colorado for the American College of Gastroenterology, sits on the Medical Executive Committee at St. Anthony Hospital, is a Board Member of Rocky Mountain Clinical Research and the American Liver Foundation and received the Peak of Excellence Award from the American Liver Foundation in 2012.  Dr. Goff is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Gastroenterological Association, Alpha Omega Alpha, the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the Gastrointestinal Research Group, and the American College of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Jain is a board certified doctor at Rocky Mountain Gastroenterology Associates (RMGA) and has been a part of more than 40 studies.  He has worked with Western States Clinical Research, Inc. since 2000.  Dr. Jain received his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO. He earned his medical degree from New York Medical in Valhalla, NY, and went to the University of Cincinnati in Ohio to complete his internship and residency in Internal Medicine. Dr. Jain completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology from the same school.  Dr. Jain is certified by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Investigators (AAPI) and is a principal investigator at Rocky Mountain Clinical Research. Dr. Jain has conducted research in the areas of Hepatitis C, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s Disease, Diverticulitis and Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.  Dr. Jain is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American College of Gastroenterology and the Association of Clinical Research Professionals.Dr. Jain is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.

Dr. Benkert is a pulmonary specialist who has his own private practice. He has been a principal investigator on 30 clinical trials with Western States Clinical Research, Inc. since 1997.  Dr. Benkert completed studies for his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and then fulfilled his internal medicine residency requirements at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, followed by a pulmonary medicine fellowship at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., a critical care medicine fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and a sleep disorder medicine fellowship a the Stanford University Medical Center.

Dr. Sawada is a board certified dermatologist with Accent Dermatology and  Laser Institute, P.L.L.C.   Dr. Sawada has been board certified in dermatology since 1990. She received her medical degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in North Carolina, and studied internal medicine at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. Her residency in dermatology took place at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Sawada has worked with Western States Clinical Research since 1999 and been Principal Investigator on 17 clinical trials.

Dr. Huang is a board certified dermatologist and has been conducting research with Western States Clinical Research, Inc. since 2013. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in biology with a focus on genetics and cell biology from Duke University in 2004.  He completed his medical training at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University in 2008.  Dr. Huang received his American Board of Dermatology Certification in 2012 and has been working with Dr. Sawada and Accent Dermatology and Laser Institute since 2012.

Dr. Leon joined our team as a Principal Investigator in 2014.   Dr. Leon is an internal medicine practitioner at Lakewood Internal Medicine in Lakewood, CO.  Dr. Leon has been involved with several trials at Western States Clinical Research, Inc. since 2014. Dr. Leon is on the Credentials Committee at Exempla Lutheran Medical Center and was previously President of the Colorado Preferred Provider Organization from 2006-2011.  Dr. Leon holds a B.S. in Biology from Creighton University. He went on to medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and received his Medical Doctorate in 1988.  Dr. Leon completed his residency at the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinics in Internal Medicine in 1991 and has been board certified since 1992.

Dr. O’ Rourke is an ophthalmologist and has worked with Western States Clinical Research, Inc. since 1999.  Dr. O’Rourke received her M.D. degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1984 and has been board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology since November, 1991.  Dr. O’Rourke practiced with the Eye Surgery Center of Colorado for 15 years before opening the Northwest Eye Center, P.C. in October 2005.  Dr. O’Rourke’s previous research experience has been published in Archives of Ophthalmology and the Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and presented at professional meetings in Vancouver, British Columbia and Oxford, England.
